Intensive Return-to-Work Rehabilitation

Functional Restoration Program

Our CARF-accredited Functional Restoration Program is an intensive, full-day interdisciplinary program that combines physical reconditioning, pain management, and behavioral health to return injured workers to full employment.

Overview

About Functional Restoration Program

The Functional Restoration Program (FRP) at Advantage Brain & Trauma is our most comprehensive return-to-work program. Structured at 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, the FRP mimics a full work schedule while delivering intensive, interdisciplinary rehabilitation. This program is designed for patients who have completed conservative therapy but have not yet achieved the functional capacity needed for a safe return to work.

FRP is an interdisciplinary, individualized, job-specific program with the primary goal of returning injured workers to employment. The program uses real and simulated work tasks, progressively graded conditioning exercises, pain management coaching techniques, and medication management — all tailored to the individual's needs and measured tolerances.

Our treatment team is assembled after comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluations, bringing together physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, psychologists, counselors, and other specialists to address every deficit identified in the patient's care. As a CARF-accredited facility, we meticulously track benchmarks including return-to-work rates, pre/post range of motion, functional status, and discharge disposition.

Who Is This For?

  • Patients who have completed conservative therapy but do not meet their PDL/PDA for safe return to work
  • Patients with more than one treatable condition requiring an interdisciplinary structured program
  • Workers whose job demands are in the medium or higher physical demand level
  • Patients who are not surgical candidates but need intensive rehabilitation
  • Injured workers whose medication regimen must be addressed during rehabilitation
Our Process

How It Works

1

Multidisciplinary Evaluation

Each patient completes comprehensive evaluations across multiple disciplines to identify all deficits, set goals, and assemble the optimal treatment team.

2

Team Conference & Goal Setting

The assembled treatment team reviews evaluation findings and collaborates with the patient to establish specific, measurable return-to-work goals and a structured treatment timeline.

3

Intensive Daily Treatment

Patients participate in 8 hours of structured daily treatment including physical conditioning, work simulation, pain management coaching, psychological therapy, and medication management.

4

Progressive Work Simulation

Real and simulated work tasks are progressively graded based on the patient's job demands, building strength, endurance, and confidence for actual job requirements.

5

Benchmarking & Progress Tracking

Regular objective measurements track progress against established benchmarks including range of motion, static lifting, functional status, and work capacity.

6

Return-to-Work Transition

As patients achieve their functional goals, the team coordinates with employers for a structured return to work, including follow-up recommendations and injury prevention strategies.
